Why this matters more than it should

Here is what I found on the last three sites I looked at.

An email that bounced

The address in the footer was missing a letter. Every customer who copied it off that page got a bounce back. Nobody knew how long it had been like that.

A domain about to expire

Ten days out, with no renewal showing. If it had lapsed, the website and the company email would both have gone dark on the same morning.

A page selling someone else

A page in the main menu, on the owner's own domain, advertising his web designer's other clients — a chiropractor, a martial arts school, a mushroom supplier.

None of those are design problems. They are the kind of quiet, expensive things that sit on a website for years because the person who built it moved on and the person who owns it has a business to run. I find them, I fix them, and then I make the site look like the work it represents.

Sites I've built.

An outdoor-living contractor in Irving, a pool service in California, a touring art show, a furniture restorer in Oak Cliff, two photography studios, a woodshop, a preschool parents group, and a few things I built for myself. Different trades, same idea — get out of the way and let the work show.

Sierra Outdoor

Toby Pence builds patio covers, pergolas, carports and outdoor kitchens across Dallas–Fort Worth. I rebuilt his site end to end: his old homepage downloaded about 30 MB on a phone, the new one about 0.8 MB. All 42 of his old web addresses now forward to the right new page, so what Google already knew about him carries over. Every call, text and estimate request is counted, with Analytics and Search Console set up behind it. A client portal pulls his Google numbers into one monthly report, and he writes proposals in it too. I also set up and manage Google Ads and Business Profiles, so you can see which calls came from where.

Always Summer Pool Service

Family-owned, second generation. Brent started cleaning pools at nine years old and there's a photograph to prove it — so we put it in the middle of the page instead of hiding it under "Our Story." Replaced a dated WordPress site and cut their hosting bill to nothing.

Pancakes & Booze Art Show

A one-night underground art takeover that tours a couple of dozen cities a year — hundreds of emerging artists, live painting, body art, music, and free pancakes at midnight. The site runs the whole tour: every city date, ticket sales, and the artist application that fills the walls.

Mid-century restoration and fine home repair. The work is slow, careful and photographable, so the site is mostly photographs — Heywood Wakefield, Dillingham, Broyhill Brasilia, shot on the bench. Built on Astro, loads instantly, costs nothing to run.

KPDS Parents Group

A volunteer build for our preschool's parents group. They had a domain, a placeholder page and a group chat doing all the work. Now there's one place for family nights, teacher appreciation, spirit wear and the local businesses that sponsor it all. I redrew the school's logo as clean vector, designed a flyer for every event of the year, and set the homepage to feature whatever's coming up next on its own. Email moved to free forwarding, and the whole thing is hosted at no cost to the group.

Milk Monster

A baby-tracking app for households where more than one person is doing the night feeds. Both phones stay in sync, so nobody has to ask whether she's already eaten. I designed and built the app, the marketing site and the store listings — it's on the App Store and Google Play at five stars.

Software · Built for contractors

RaveJob

Not a website — a product. Contractors tap "job done," and RaveJob follows up with the customer, catches problems before they turn into a public one-star, and walks the happy ones straight to Google. I built it because I watched good tradesmen lose work over a review they never saw coming.

Vector Map Maker generating a cuttable vector map of Fort Worth

Vector Map Maker

City maps you can actually cut on a laser. Every other generator hands you a picture wrapped in an SVG — fine on a screen, useless on a machine. This one draws real paths for every road, park and shoreline, sized in millimetres and colour-coded to engrave, score or cut. It reads OpenStreetMap vector tiles and decodes them in the browser, so a map takes under a second instead of twenty. Free, no account, nothing leaves your machine.

Four steps, and you do almost none of them.

We talk for twenty minutes

What you do, who calls you, what you wish the phone rang about more. I'll have already read your site and found whatever's broken on it, so bring questions rather than answers.

02

I build it

Not a wireframe, not a mood board — the actual site, using your photographs and your words. You look at a finished thing on your phone and tell me what's wrong with it.

We fix what's wrong

Two rounds of changes, included. This is where you get to be picky, and where the thing that was bugging you gets sorted out.

It goes live and I keep it running

I handle the domain, the certificate and the move over, so nothing goes dark. After that, text me when something needs changing and I'll change it.

Published, because you shouldn't have to ask.

Most small business sites land in the same place. If yours is simpler, it costs less — I'll tell you that on the first call rather than after.

Simple sites start at $900. Bigger ones — a real catalogue, several locations, a booking system — run to $1,500. You'll get the number before I start, and it won't move.

One thing that's different

I take the photographs, too.

Most websites for small businesses fail on pictures, not layout. Stock photos of somebody else's kitchen, a logo where a person should be, a phone snap with a Christmas tree in the background. I've been a working photographer for fifteen years — so when your site needs a picture of you at your bench, or your team in front of the shop, I bring a camera instead of a search bar.
